Improve your Performance by making the most of your downtime to ensure a better work life balance

Too many of us drive ourselves into the ground these days, trying to have it all, be it all and meet the demands of both our employer, our families, and also what we think society in general demands of us.

You may be enjoying your work or a new project you are participating in, but are you really allowing yourself to recharge those batteries?  Do you allow yourself sufficient downtime?

So why is this important?

In Brendon Burchard’s book, High Performance habits he identifies six habits of high performing individuals:

  • Seek clarity
  • Generate energy
  • Raise necessity
  • Increase productivity
  • Develop Influence
  • Demonstrate Courage

In order to generate energy so that you can maintain focus, effort and well-being he argues you need to actively care for both your mental stamina, physical energy and positive emotions, pg 38

FACT – When you look after yourself and particularly your emotions and well-being you will be more decisive, perform better and be less prone to emotional outbursts.

Another FACT is that the evidence shows that high performers do take moderate exercise.  Not obsessive exercise, but they take care of their physical and mental well-being.

Another FACT – Joy plays a huge part in what makes high performers successful.  So how do we become more joyful? – we raise our vibration.

I thoroughly recommend reading chapter – Bring the joy (page 104) in Brendon’s book

Brendon argues:

High performers have the magical trifecta of capital E – Energy – that holistic kind that includes positive and enduring mental, physical, and emotional vibrancy”

Understanding how our energy systems work and how this affects our emotions and our performance

We are all made of energy.        Just like electricity – energy runs throughout our bodies.

When we vibrate in low energy – we send out messages of negativity and we may feel down or worse suffer from stress, anxiety and even depression.  We can begin to feel stressed and anxious about events in our life and this can then affect our whole lives.

When we vibrate high energy – we send out messages of positivity and we feel calm and in FLOW.

Remember – We get to choose if we live in high vibration or low vibration.

We need to ensure we take adequate rest and do the things that allow us to raise our energy levels to remain in high vibration to ensure we can cope with life’s demands.

Very often our subconscious minds can play havoc with us, and we can begin to listen to our limiting beliefs about what is possible, and this can be a very dangerous downward spiral for us.

We may also experience health issues as our bodies feel the impact of low vibration energy, and worse high levels of cortisol in our bodies due to high stress levels.

We may not be able to sleep or gain restorative rest.  So we get tired and become less efficient.

FACT – When our energy is in FLOW, we are in high vibe energy, things appear effortless, and all is plain sailing for us.

When we are in FLOW we seldom have doubts, anxieties and fears or negative emotions.  We are extremely positive on all fronts, and all is balanced and aligned.  The conscious and subconscious and conscious mind are in harmony with each other.

As a result, we benefit from good health and mental well-being as a result.  When we feel in  FLOW, we have more energy to give to our work.

So how do I get in FLOW?

  1. Keep a gratitude diary – write down 5 things you are really grateful for each day before you go to bed.
  2. Make sure that you can get restorative sleep – that does not mean snatching as many hours as you can. Perhaps you need to use EFT before sleep?
  3. Take a walk-in nature. Breathing in the air and appreciating the peace and quiet of that activity.
  4. Allow yourself to spend quality time doing what you really enjoy for at least part of your weekend.
  5. Taking exercise can be great, as long as it is not excessive. Walking is great.
  6. Spend some time being pampered. Book that treatment.  You deserve it.
  7. Carry out random acts of kindness, it really does help you feel good inside.

TAKE BACK CONTROL OF YOUR FREE TIME.  DON’T BE TIME HUNGRY.  THAT CAUSES MORE STRESS.  YOU HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD IF YOU TAKE CONTROL.  WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU IN LIFE?

Make sure you spend more of your time doing what is important to you and what makes you happy and joyful.  Then you will reap the rewards and your performance at work will improve.

REMEMBER WE CAN ONLY LIVE OUR BEST LIVES WHEN WE ARE IN FLOW.
