Why the hell can’t I get a great night’s sleep?
Very often this is down to life events during our day raising our levels of cortisol to the point where we are so stressed, anxious or just wound up, that it becomes impossible to reduce our levels naturally, and calm down enough to go into a peaceful restorative sleep.
We continue to think about all the things we have to do the next day or events which have happened during the past day. Our brains are just not allowing us to be calm and at peace.
Or we become so exhausted, we fall asleep quickly, but then wake after a few hours and then the Monkey Mind starts – the inner voice goes crazy, and we are so busy again in our minds, it is impossible to go back to sleep.
Using EFT (also known as Tapping) before bed can greatly reduce your cortisol levels and prepare you for a more restorative sleep, allowing you to recharge your batteries and allowing you to sleep longer.

We also need to avoid distractions which can have the opposite impact on our brains:
- Using our phones and computers just before bed.
- Watching high energy TV or films.
- Working late, responding to e-mails just before bed. Fatal!
Try this great tapping audio by Nick Ortner to quiet that racing mind just before bed. Doing this after a nice relaxing bath instead of watching TV or worse still the news, which might raise your anxiety levels, is a good way to begin working towards a better night’s sleep.

Another useful resource to use are Sleep meditations. Some I would definitely recommend are these:

But you can find many others online. Especially useful if you wake during the night and can’t get back to sleep quickly.
Put your headphones on, lie back and just immerse yourself in the audio or soothing music or EFT script. You will soon drift away and the quality of the sleep you will enjoy will be so much more powerful.
